Compass Box Lady Luck
Compass Box’s “Lady Luck” offering is one of their most expensive and exclusive. A blend of two ancient Caol Ilas casks and a 1995 Imperial single malt, Lady Luck has a distinctly complex flavor of smoke and citrus. In addition, the label is what helps makes this product special. They have crammed as many omens of good luck as possible into the artwork of the front label. If you look hard, you can find dice, rabbits, the number 7, four-leaf clovers, the Ace of Spades, keys and more.
Nose: Elegant and gently ashy, like a fireplace that is cleaned the morning after. Some toffee, vanilla custard and sweet orange. Hints of cinnamon and cardamom. Coal and yellow apple. The restrained Islay character together with the candied, fruity Imperial works well.
Mouth: Oily mouthfeel. Peatier now with big tobacco notes. Again a nice sweetness but it’s mostly the Coal Ila talking. Quite briney and coastal with subtle lemon.
Finish: long and dry on liquorice and olive juice.
This bottling is very hard to come by, so if you happen across one – nab it, quickly.
