French Whisky Aged in Cognac Barrels
While exploring the world whisky scene for something “new”, Allison Patel encountered a third generation Cognac producer who had started distilling a unique Single Malt in the heart of Cognac, France. Upon tasting it, Allison immediately knew it was something special. She and the distiller collaborated over a span of three and a half years to refine the aging spirit. A breakthrough occurred when Allison decided to incorporate previously used Cognac casks in the whisky aging process. This stimulated the whisky in a beautiful way; ultimately creating a new profile within the Single Malt category.
Brenne Whisky is crafted from seed to spirit in very limited batches. Allison’s first expression, Estate Cask, has no age statement as every barrel is bottled in single barrel releases and the aging time on each cask may vary slightly. It is full of fruit-forward and complex sugar notes; like rich creme brûlée, burnt caramel, bananas, tropical fruits and warm spices. Allison wanted to produce a whisky that embodied the terrior of the region in which it is was produced. This unique spirit is not trying to be Scotch, it’s just whisky made in a different country – this is truly a French Whisky. It is elegant and sophisticated.
By respecting age-old traditions and adding a little innovation, Allison Patel has succeeded in bringing an entirely new experience to the world of Single Malt whisky.
